Xbox Live Mobile Phone Announced

Microsoft are finally taking handheld and mobile gaming seriously with the announcment of Windows Phone 7. A phone that integrates with Xbox Live and has games galore.

While many people have often questioned why Microsoft hasn't joined the handheld market to rival the Sony PSP, the Nintendo DS or even the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch, perhaps Windows Phone 7 is their answer.

Amongst the 63 games unveiled, there's handheld versions for both Crackdown and Halo - Crackdown 2: Project Sunburst and Halo Waypoint.

Not only this but Microsoft has confirmed that the phone, which is due out this Christmas, has integrated Xbox Live functions, including demos, online leaderboards, multiplayer, avatars, messaging and most importantly (to many), Achievements.

"Windows Phone 7 is the launch of a major gaming platform for Microsoft," general manager of mobile gaming for MGS Matt Booty stated. "Just like we've done with Xbox 360, our charter is to push the envelope and deliver definitive games that maximise the platform. We will have an incredible line-up of MGS titles, and that's just the beginning."
